I absolutely LOVE FOOD, all types of food, and from all cultures. It is only right that I make food one of my first blog posts.
When first coming to the USA, one of the biggest expectations is to eat tons and tons of hamburgers and pizza every day and get fat.In reality, there is just as much variety of food here than there is back home (France for me). You will definitely be able to find fish, seafood, poultry, pork, beef, pasta, rice and all sorts of fruits and vegetables at the local grocery store.
Even though, you will not be able to find your favorite Maggi seasoning, palm oil, or fufu in a basic grocery store, there are a couple of international stores in major cities where you can find such exotic products. However, if you end up in a very rural type part of the USA you will totally be S.O.L (Sh*t Out of Luck).
Casual and fine American restaurants will offer a nice variety of dishes, but be prepared for just the next three options at a fast food restaurant: burger, chicken sandwich, and fish sandwich if you are lucky enough.
When being foreign in the USA, your nutrition is all up to you and the choices you make, but you will always have healthy options- even in the cafeteria. My favorite american dishes are sweet potato casserole, green beans casserole and garlic parmesan chicken wings! Oh I almost forgot, DONUTS are life.
