Group Trip to Haiti

#gravelhaiti 2017 gravel haiti

I participated in a Service and Leisure trip to Haiti with 29 amazing souls. This post will be in two parts, and the second/ best part will be on the community service we did while there and will be published early August.

1. Arrival

After a smooth flight from Miami to Port - au - Prince, I was amazed to see how quick it was to go through immigration. Outside of the unexpected $10 tourism fee, it was very easy to navigate to the arrival hall. Even though our flights and carousel numbers were not updated on the screens, all bags were delivered quickly. When exiting, someone matches your bag tag with your ID to make sure you picked up the correct bag (s). I found the huge fans combined with the Haitian Prestige beer to be very efficient in keeping me cool while purchasing a local sim card ($10) and waiting for the rest of the group to arrive. Once everyone got there, we took our private bus straight to the Haitian National Pantheon Museum where we learned a lot about Haiti’s history. After feeding our brains with some Haitian knowledge, we had a delicious lunch at Jardin du Mupanah and headed to the Royal Decameron Indigo Beach Resort & Spa.

2. Resort

I usually go the DIY route and book with Airbnb when traveling outside the USA, but this beautiful Decameron Resort Haiti with all inclusive food, drinks, entertainment, and activities was the bomb.com. The staff was very polite. The rooms were clean and even came with water bottles and one blow dryer. There were mosquitoes in the shower, but mosquitoes are to be expected when traveling to the Caribbean. The buffet offered a nice variety of both local and international dishes. I tried about all the drinks on the bar’s drink menu, but my favorite was Crémas; a sweet and creamy drink made out of cream of coconut, condensed milk, spices, and dark or white rum. The show I attended before dancing the night away at the resort’s disco, was fun, colorful, and engaging. You guys know I love water, so i definitely enjoyed myself playing at the beach, swimming in the pool, paddling, sailing, and soaking in the very hot tub :)

Come back early August for Part Two of my Leisure and Service Trip to Haiti.

Live Life Fully,

France Mkb
